What is a Bonding Appointment for Braces?

If you recently decided to begin orthodontic treatment, you will soon hear about something called a “bonding appointment.” This is the official start of your braces journey and one of the most important visits of your treatment plan with Dr. Aaron Crossley!

What is a Bonding Appointment for Braces?

During this appointment, each tooth will be carefully cleaned and prepared. Then, small brackets are placed on the front surface of your teeth using a safe dental adhesive. Once the brackets are secure, an archwire is threaded through and attached. This wire is what applies gentle pressure to guide your teeth into new positions. For some patients, small elastic ties are used to hold the wire in place.

How Long is a Bonding Appointment for Braces?

The entire appointment usually lasts around an hour, depending on the type of braces you are getting. Most patients do not feel any pain while the braces are being placed, but your teeth may feel sore later in the day as gentle pressure begins.

What Happens After My Braces Are On?

After bonding, your treatment officially begins. Return to our office every few weeks for adjustments as your teeth slowly move into alignment. It's important not to skip appointments as each visit builds on the last, bringing you closer to your goal of a straighter and healthier smile!
